Man Demands N10Billion from Emeka Ugwuonye over Alleged Defamatory Post on Facebook

By Ololade Adeyanju/

A retired civil servant, Mr. David Aiyedogbon, is in court asking for a compensation of N10billion after he was accused of killing his wife on Facebook.

Aiyedogbon approached the FCT High Court, in Apo, seeking N10 billion as damages in a defamation suit instituted against controversial Lagos lawyer, Mr. Emeka Ugwuonye, who allegedly accused him of murdering his wife.

Aiyedogbon told the Court, today, that it is defamatory for Ugwuonye to accuse him of the murder of his estranged wife, Charity.

During cross-examination, Aiyedogbon told the Court that his son informed him of the alleged defamatory post made on Facebook which led to the suit.

He said, “We were married for 26 years and separated on May 29, 2014, while she was declared missing in May 2016.

“Mr. Ugwuonye could not produce any evidence that I murdered my former wife. I filed this suit against the defendant for him to present to the Court his overwhelming evidence of why he called me a murderer.”

Ugwuonye, however, asked David why he could not recognize the dismembered body of his wife since they were married for 26 years.

He said, “I did not have the technical expertise. It was a picture so the claim was not verifiable.

“What steps did you take to confirm that your wife is dead now? The police conducted an investigation and paraded two people who confessed to the crime.”

Aiyedogboh told the Court that he was not aware that his wife indicated on Facebook or any other platform that he wanted to kill her. He also affirmed that he was not aware that his wife was pregnant in November 2015 and he never sent his children to beg their mother to withdraw any lawsuit.

“We were married till her death,” he said. “I am not a divorcee. I am a widower.” After listening to the testimony, Justice Peter Kekemeke adjourned the matter until October 25 for the continuation of hearing.
