A 45 year old man, Ali Muhammed, has been arraigned by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly defrauding the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, of N39.5 million under the guise of selling auctioned vehicles.
Muhammed was brought before a magistrate court in Ogbomoso on Tuesday and charged on four counts bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence, stealing and impersonation.
According to the charge sheet, marked MOC/234c/C/2025, the defendant allegedly presented himself as the Comptroller of the Nigerian Customs Service in Oyo State and promised to facilitate the auction of vehicles and bags of rice for the monarch.
The police said the representation was false and intended to deceive.
Prosecutors alleged that between October 12 and October 19, 2025, at the Oja Igbo area of Ogbomoso, Muhammed conspired with others still at large to obtain the money from the traditional ruler.
The offences were said to contravene Sections 516, 419, 383, 390(9) and 484 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Volume II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
One of the counts further accused the defendant of falsely representing himself as the Comptroller of Customs, Oyo Osun Command, identified in the charge as Comptroller Gambo Aliyu, with the intent to defraud the monarch of the said sum.
Muhammed pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The court granted him bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties resident within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until January 28, 2026, for hearing.
