Ololade Adeyanju/

A 49-year-old man, Mr Kayode Oni, was yesterday arraigned before an Oyo State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter.

The accused was arraigned on one count of having an unlawful carnal knowledge of his daughter.

Although, the plea of the accused was not taken during the proceedings, but while being interrogated by Chief Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Olaniran, the accused admitted that he had been having carnal knowledge of the victim since she was eight.

He explained that he had separated from the victim’s mother when she was just eight years old, adding that he had been defiling her since then.

He claimed that it was a mistake and the work of the devil.

The prosecutor, Mr Sunday Ogunremi, told the court that the accused in 2018 at No. 4 Obamomo GRA Quarter Iyaganku, Ibadan, had unlawful carnal knowledge of his 14-year-old daughter without her consent.

Ogunremi said the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 34 (1) and (2) of the Child Rights Law of Oyo State Nigeria, 2006.

The magistrate berated those involved in the act of sexually abusing underage children, saying they were allowing the devil to use them to destroy the society.

He, thereafter, ordered that the accused be remanded in the Agodi Prison pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The matter was thereafter adjourned till July 23.
