Six governorship aspirants, Hon. Saheed Akinade Fijabi, Are Isiaka Abiola Olagunju (SAN), Prof. Dahud Sangodoyin, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, Mr Adejumibi Samuel Ademola, and Abdulsabul Abiola Olawoore, have been screened by the Oyo State Governor’s Advisory Council as part of preparations for the next election.
The exercise was ordered by Governor Seyi Makinde and carried out by the council led by its chairman, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN).
It involved meetings and discussions with each aspirant to assess their readiness for leadership.
In a statement, Ayorinde said the council had completed the process and submitted its report to the governor.
He described the outcome as both revealing and reassuring.
According to him, several of the aspirants showed strong ability and a clear understanding of governance.
He added that the quality of those seeking to lead the state reflects well on its future.
“It is revealing and reassuring that some of the aspirants are of excellent quality and indeed show that the future is very bright for our dear state,” he said.
The council explained that the exercise was designed to create a fair environment for all aspirants while carefully reviewing their capacity to govern.
It also noted that many of those screened are loyal to the current administration, suggesting that continuity of existing policies may play a key role in the next phase of leadership.
Members of the advisory council include notable political figures such as Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Michael Lana, Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye, and Senator Gbenga Babalola.
The council stressed that Oyo State cannot afford to lose the progress already made, hinting that the choice of the next governor will be crucial in sustaining ongoing reforms.
With the report now submitted, attention is expected to turn to how the governor and political stakeholders will act on its recommendations as the race for the state’s top job gathers pace.
