Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has pledged to mobilise at least N500 million for landmark projects at Bishop Phillips Academy, Ibadan, during a reunion of members of the school’s 1985 set held to mark 40 years after their graduation.
The governor made the pledge at the anniversary reunion, which brought together former classmates to reflect on their years at the school and discuss ways of giving back to their alma mater.
Makinde later disclosed the pledge in a social media post recounting the event.
“Yesterday, it was lovely to join my former classmates from the 1985 set to mark 40 years after we finished from Bishop Phillips Academy, Ibadan,” he said. “We reminisced about the good times during our stay in school.”
He stated that the milestone anniversary provided the basis for a collective commitment to support the school through major interventions.
“To commemorate our 40th anniversary, I promised to rally my friends and associates to raise at least N500 million for landmark projects at our alma mater,” Makinde said.
The governor also revealed that a seven member committee has been constituted to coordinate and supervise the execution of the planned projects at the school.
“We agreed to set up a 7-man committee made up of Foluso Olatunji, Sade Okediji, Kolawole Olalekan, Peluola Ladeji, Samson Olatunji, Omolara Ayinla and Seye Popoola, to coordinate and supervise the planned projects in the school,” he said.
The initiative is aimed at supporting the development of Bishop Phillips Academy through projects expected to have long term impact on the school community, driven by contributions from old students and their associates.
