Elon Musk buys Twitter

X (formerly Twitter) has officially started to hide all likes on posts on the platform.

Elon Musk argues this will “allow people to like posts without getting attacked for doing so”.

In fact, the self-proclaimed ‘chief twit’ claims there has been a “massive increase” in likes since they were made private.

Following weeks of speculation, last night, X confirmed that likes are now private on the platform.

“Important change: your likes are now private,” Musk said.

A post by X’s Engineering team confirmed how the change will work.

“This week we’re making Likes private for everyone to better protect your privacy,” it tweeted.

“You will still be able to see posts you have liked (but others cannot).

“Like count and other metrics for your own posts will still show up under notifications.

“You will no longer see who liked someone else’s post.

“A post’s author can see who liked its posts.”

The change appears to have been fruitful for X, with Elon Musk posting a graph showing the number of likes in the hours after.

“Massive increase in likes after they were made private!” he tweeted.
