Assassins who launched a bloody attack on the home of the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu, are now in police net.
According to the police, five suspects, including three soldiers have been held for the December 12, 2017 attack that claimed the life of Sgt Haruna Sarki, a 45-Squadron Police Mobile Force personnel, on guard duty at Magu’s farm house in Barkin Uza Karshi Area of Abuja.
Two AK47 Rifles stolen from the farm house, on the day of the attack, have also been recovered from a remote village in Benue State.
It has taken detectives from the Intelligence Response Team, led by DCP Abba Kyari, four months to smash the gang, after combing four states for the suspects.
Incidentally, the gang was smashed on April 19, when Kyari got his second special promotion from the Police Service Commission for his superlative performances, including the arrest of a notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans.
The arrested suspects have been unmasked as: 36-year-old Inalegwu Omikpa, a native of Ameju Okpoku area of Benue State; the gang leader, Francis Ochife, 38, a native of Otukpo, in Benue State, and dismissed Lance Corporal Vincent Michael attached to 403 Flying Training School, Kano.
NewsmakersNG learnt that Michael was dismissed and handed over to the Police, after which he led IRT operatives to the village in Otukpo, where the AK47 rifles were recovered under his bed.
Other suspects in police net were identified as: Lance Corporal Awua T. Timothy attached to DHQ Abuja, and Sgt Paul Sunday, also attached to the DHQ.
They are being detained by the Military and under trial, based on evidence provided by the Police.
