Magu Having a Taste of Own Medicine, Says Fayose

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has asked the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, to stop complaining about being treated unfairly by the presidential panel probing the allegation of misconduct against him.

Tweeting this afternoon via his verified handle, Fayose urged the retired Justice Ayo Salami-led panel to obtain a 28 days remand order from the court to enable it keep Magu in custody for as long it is required.

The former governor was reacting to reports about Magu complaining that the manner the probe is being conducted violates his fundamental human rights, as well as his right to fair hearing.

Magu reportedly registered his protest through a letter written to the panel by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu.

But Fayose also took a swipe at Shittu, describing him as one of the tools used by the EFCC under Magu to detain suspects indefinitely.

Fayose tweeted, “The Panel should formalize Magu’s detention by obtaining 28-days Remand Order from court to enable completion of investigations. The panel must equally get Temporary & Permanent Forfeiture of loots linked to him. That’s Magu’s style & procedure while in office. He can’t complain now.

“Wahab Shittu, EFCC lawyer turned Magu’s defender understands their style, so why is he complaining? Or didn’t he work with Magu to secure court orders to detain people indefinitely and forfeit properties linked to people being investigated?”
