Omorinmade Anikulapo-Kuti, the first child of Afrobeat star, Femi Kuti, has graduated from the same institution where his legendary grandfather, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti started his music career 60 years ago.

Fondly called Made, Fela’s grandson graduated with a second-class upper degree in music from the prestigious Trinity College in UK.

Fela, the late pioneer and King of Afrobeat Music, was sent to London in 1958 to study medicine but decided to study music instead at the Trinity College of Music, the trumpet being his preferred instrument. While there, he formed the band Koola Lobitos, playing a fusion of jazz and highlife.

Twenty-two-year-old Made officially joined his father’s Positive Force Band earlier this year. The move was seen as a continuation of the family tradition that saw Femi playing in Fela’s Afrika 70 and Egypt 80’s bands.

Made now plays with Femi Kuti on Music tours, and they played side by side at the just concluded Global Citizen Festival in South Africa.
