The Lagos State Police Command has received additional operational assets from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund ahead of the official launch of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), in a move aimed at strengthening crime-fighting operations and rapid emergency response across the state.

The initiative is part of the ongoing reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The operational support package presented to the Command includes two patrol vehicles, 50 ballistic helmets, 50 bulletproof vests, and 50 ballistic shields designed to improve the safety, operational efficiency, and response capability of officers attached to the new tactical unit.

Presenting the equipment on behalf of the LSSTF, Executive Secretary, Ayodele Ogunsan reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting security agencies with modern operational tools and logistics needed to guarantee public safety and effective policing in Lagos.

According to him, the intervention underscores the collaborative efforts between the Lagos State Government and security stakeholders to combat violent crimes and improve emergency response mechanisms in the nation’s commercial capital.

Receiving the assets on behalf of the Command, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for their continued investment in security infrastructure and operational support for the police.

Fatai said the equipment would significantly enhance the operational readiness of the VCRU and strengthen the Command’s capacity to tackle violent crimes, respond swiftly to emergencies, and protect lives and property across Lagos State.

The police commissioner also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, crime prevention, and improved public safety in line with the reform-driven vision of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Violent Crime Response Unit is expected to serve as a specialised tactical formation focused on combating armed robbery, kidnapping, cult-related violence, and other high-risk criminal activities in Lagos State.
