If there’s anything that makes a wedding or engagement day memorable, it’s the colours and love that personalities bring to it.
Such beautiful colours and affection were on high display Thursday as Hajiya Fatima Adamu, the wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, led some police officers wives to the engagement ceremony of the daughter of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Adeleye Oyebade and the son of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Barr. Sola Ojutalayo at the NECA Event Center, Alausa, in Lagos.
Stories of love, endurance and selfless service were told at the ceremony, including how the IGP’s wife had arrived a day earlier and fully participated, not minding that her own son’s wedding was just two days away, far from Lagos. The guests heard the story of how the bride’s mother, Mrs Adebimpe Oyebade has been so supportive of her husband of 35 years, as the officer traversed the length and breadth of Nigeria fighting crimes. They also heard the story of the selfless service of the bridegroom’s father, who was shuttling between Lagos and Osun as the Chairman of the think-tank committee of the Zone XI Security Stakeholders’ Forum.
Hajiya Adamu left no one in doubt that she surely knows how to flow.
To the admiration of all the guests, she made the ceremony very cheerful, as she mixed freely, laughed heartily, and had a good time on the dance floor.
As the President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Hajiya Adamu led from the front with exceptional camaraderie. She showed how powerful and committed the association could be when participating in the affairs of members.
And for the couple, Olutola and Olutayo Ojutalayo, it was a day they would hug if they could get their arms around it. They displayed a range of dance steps as the compère who called herself a Senior Alaga of Nigeria (SAN) propelled them to. They also received choruses of applause as they excellently performed other rites accompanied by friends and family members.
The union was sealed with a series of prayers. Notable among these prayers is that God should make the marriage fruitful and bless it with twins and that the couple should live happily ever after.
AIG Oyebade and his wife who could not mask their joy rendered several praise songs.
IGP Adamu was represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Peter Babatunde Ogunyanwo fdc.
Besides a galaxy of eminent personalities including the Lagos State commissioner of police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu, CP Fimihan Adeoye, Chief Niyi Adegbenro, Gbenga Okegbenro, and Pastor Dele Balogun of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) who said the opening prayer, the engagement was also witnessed by a Royal Father, the Waniki of Ile Ife, Oba Olukole Ojutalayo, who led the Ojutalayo family from Ilawe Compound in Ile-Ife to pluck a beautiful flower, as the saying goes, from the Oyebade family of Owu Kingdom. They came with a letter and gifts.
Those who rocked the party included wives of commissioners of police, Mrs Ronke Odumosu, Mrs Mary Edgal, Mrs Tolulope David, and Mrs Juliet Odesanya, the wife of the late CP Bolaji Odesanya just to mention a few.
The wedding proper holds on Saturday at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Dominion Sanctuary, Vori Close, on Acme Road, Ogba, in Lagos, to be followed by a reception at the Haven Event Center, Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral compound along Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
