Ibadan billionaire and philanthropist, Bashorun Kola Daisi, has underscored the importance of longevity in the city’s traditional chieftaincy system, saying it plays a decisive role in the emergence of an Olubadan.
Daisi made the remark while receiving the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who paid him a personal visit at his Iyaganku residence on the occasion of his 93rd birthday.
Flanked by his son, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, the Osi Olubadan-designate, the nonagenarian expressed delight at witnessing Ladoja’s ascension as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“I am proud to see this day. Longevity plays a very significant role in Ibadan’s chieftaincy system. I congratulate Ibadan people for this great opportunity, and I pray God grants you long life, wisdom, knowledge and understanding to discharge your obligations to the people,” he said.
In his remarks, Oba Ladoja described the elder statesman as a mentor and an inspiration, praising his contributions to business, philanthropy and education, particularly through the establishment of Kola-Daisi University.
He noted that role models like Daisi provide critical guidance for the younger generation, adding that he drew similar inspiration from the likes of Asiwaju Bode Amao, the late Dr Victor Olunloyo, the late High Chief Omowale Kuye, the late Barrister Kareem Latunji and the late Otunba Subomi Balogun.
“Baba, you may not know how much you mean to us. You are an inspiration. The lives you have touched through your investments and philanthropy are countless. It is our prayer that you live long to celebrate many more years in the land of the living,” the Olubadan-elect said.
