Local Hunters Foil First Bank Robbery in Oyo

Matilda Omonaiye/

Eyewitnesses have told how a gang of armed robbers was smashed by local hunters and youths after the bandits raided a First Bank branch at Okeho in Oyo State.

According to one of the eyewitnesses who shared her experience on Twitter, six armed robbers stormed Okeho First Bank, killed a Mobile policeman and broke in to loot. Unknown to them, local hunters and youths had mobilised and blocked the robbers escape route while they were still in the bank.

Four members of the gang were reportedly killed as they were trying to escape.

Some of those who spoke about the incident saw it as one of the gains of the ongoing Amotekun project in the Southwest.

Six days earlier Oyo State governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Southwest region, DIG Adeleye Oyebade inaugurated the state community policing advisory committee as directed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu to raise people’s consciousness in assisting the police to fight crimes.
