For many Nigerians living with sickle cell disorder (SCD), hope has arrived at last.

The Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria, in partnership with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, now offers bone marrow transplantation (BMT), also called stem cell transplantation, a treatment recognised internationally as a cure for the disease in eligible patients.

Since bringing the procedure home in 2024, the programme has already successfully treated several patients, giving them a chance at a life free from the chronic pain, hospitalisations, and complications that define SCD.

Each transplant is carried out with precision by highly skilled medical professionals, ensuring patients receive world-class care without leaving the country.

“This is a historic moment for Nigeria,” the foundation said in a recent post on its X handle, noting that the programme had already completed three successful transplants in Lagos.

The post emphasises the foundation’s commitment to making the therapy accessible and encouraging patients to seek early evaluation for eligibility.

For families who have long faced the uncertainties of sickle cell disorder, the programme represents more than medicine, it offers renewed hope and a future that was once out of reach.

Patients and caregivers can contact the foundation via WhatsApp at 08108188085 or by phone at 08135190029 for guidance and enrolment.

Medical experts highlight that timely evaluation and early transplantation are key to success, and the foundation continues to champion awareness, early diagnosis, and wider access to treatment for the millions of Nigerians living with SCD.
