Founder of Behind Bars, a Delta State based civil society organisation, Harrison Gwamnishu, has resigned his membership of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the state government to investigate the activities of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Gwamnishu in a series of tweets today cited the shooting and killing of unarmed protesters by soldiers at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos yesterday night as the reason for his action.
He said he had also returned the N100,000 sitting allowance he got as a member of the panel to the Secretary to the State Government.
According to him, the federal government had, by the action of the soldiers, betrayed its lack of commitment to the reforms demanded by the #EndSARS protesters.
His tweets read in part, “My name is Harrison Gwamnishu, I have just submitted my resignation letter to Delta State Government.
“I also returned the sum of N100,000 Panel sitting allowance disbursed to me as a member of the panel.
“May the labour of our heroes past not be in vain. #EndPoliceBrutality.”
