Lekki Shootings, a Massacre Without Bodies, Says FG … Threatens CNN with Sanctions

Pat Stevens/

The Federal Government has insisted that there were no massacre of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate contrary to popular belief.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said this at a press conference today in Abuja.

The minister took a swipe at CNN for its report on the Lekki incident, describing it as “blatantly irresponsible”.

He also canvassed sanction for the American media organisation without stating where the sanction should come from.

“This should earn CNN a serious sanction for irresponsible reporting,” he said.

Yesterday, CNN published its investigation on the incident, alleging that soldiers used live bullets on #EndSARS protesters who had converged on Lekki tollgate on October 20.

The army insists that its men only fired blank bullets in the air to disperse the protesters.

Mohammed said those who alleged massacre at the toll gate only succeeded in misleading the world.

He said while government awaits the outcome of the panel investigating the matter, “we can say that the world has just witnessed a massacre without bodies” in Lekki.

The minister insisted that the military did not shoot at protesters at the toll gate.

He asked anyone who has contrary proofs to make them available to the panel investigating the matter.

Mohammed said the government was satisfied with the way security agencies handled the protests.
