A privately run electricity distribution company, Viathan Engineering, has expressed sadness at the shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll plaza, in Lagos, yesterday night.
The company also denied that it played any role in the unfortunate incident.
In a statement today, the company said its responsibility is limited to supplying electricity to companies and individuals in the area, just like any other power distribution company.
The company said it therefore has no control over how any of its constumers utilise the electricity supplied to them.

20.10.20 is a sad day in Nigeria’s history and I can only imagine the pain of those who have lost their loved ones or sustained injuries.
The news of my involvement in turning off power supply to the Lekki Toll has recently come to my attention. I wish to categorically state this is FALSE.
Like every off-taker we supply electricity to, the consumer/customer is directly in control of the switch gear – which is used to switch between power sources i.e. PHCN, IPP etc, therefore, the customer can switch power on/off at their will. It is simply NOT possible for us to switch off power for only LCC from our plants.
This false assertion is equally ironic, as our mandate at Viathan is that our customers enjoy 24/7 electricity supply. Everyone who knows me personally knows that I an extremely passionate about the development of Nigeria, thus is my duty as a father, husband and brothers’ keeper. I am truly saddened by these developments.
May the souls of the departed Rest in Peace.
