The hitherto unidentified lawyer who is seen in a viral video striking pro-democracy activist, Omoyele Sowore, with an alleged poisonous substance has been uncovered as Ibrahim Bawa (SAN) who was the immediate past Director of Legal Services of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A member of Sowore’s legal team and a former National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Abdul Mahmud, disclosed this yesterday.
Bawa, who is a senior member of the Federal Government’s legal team that is prosecuting Sowore, is shown in the video hitting the activist in the face as operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) struggled to rearrest him at the Federal High Court in Abuja last Friday.

Mahmud in a Twitter post also said that the defence team had filed a formal petition against Bawa at the highest disciplinary committee of the Bar.

In an earlier tweet, Mahmud said Sowore’s health was now a cause for worry, following the attack.
