Ondo State Governor Elect, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has been urged to engage the services of professionals in his cabinet for his government to impact positively on the lives of the people.
According to Afe Olowookere, a Federal Lawmaker representing Akure North/South Federal Constituency, technocrats and professionals will add more credibility to the incoming government if appointed.
“In some critical sectors, the government should look for experts who can add value to his administration,” he said, as he made reference to the value added to the present administration by the Commissioner for Transport, Nicholas Tofowomo, who managed the free shuttle buses of government for school children.
He said, “The man has added value to Mimiko’s administration. In that ministry, he really made his mark. You will know that this man knows his onions.
“I wish Akeredolu will look for people like that in his cabinet – people that will add value. When Tofowomo came on board, he made a great impact. There was a dramatic change in the ministry. He was everywhere doing wonders.”
Olowookere, who argued that the nation’s politics has been bastardized and it is without ideology, enjoined the incoming governor to shun party sentiments and scout for verified experts that will bring meritocracy to bear on all sectors.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker urged Akeredolu, who will be sworn in on February 24, 2017, to identify the priority areas and deploy technocrats to manage them for the development of the state.
He decried what he described as the growing number of abandoned, moribund and “white elephant projects” embarked upon by the Governor Olusegun Mimiko-led administration and enjoined him to complete the projects of his predecessors.
