LASU Shines Again

A 300-level student of the Department of History and International Studies, Lagos State University (LASU), Pelumi Olugbenga, has emerged one of the five Hesselbein International Scholars from Africa.

Those selected will participate in the 2017 Hesselbein Global Leadership Summit, at the prestigious Hesselbein Global Academy for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States of America, starting next month.

The latest feat by LASU is coming on the heels of its emergence as the number one state government-owned tertiary institution in Nigeria.

The Hesselbein Global Leadership Summit offers participants a transformative, globally-minded leadership experience. The summit brings together exceptional and dynamic student leaders from around the world for an intensive four-day experience. Participants engage in interactive workshops, receive mentorship from government and business leaders, and take part in hands-on problem solving sessions.

A statement from LASU describes Pelumi’s successful selection was as being “by no means an easy feat”.

The statement by the instruction’s spokesman, Ademola Adekoya, noted: “Out of several applications from accomplished university students across the globe, 50 student leaders were eventually selected across the six continents of the world, with only five from Africa – including Pelumi Olugbenga – as the new set of Hesselbein International Scholars.”

It further explained: “Mr Pelumi’s Hesselbein scholarship covers his tuition, feeding, accommodation, transportation and other expenses in the academy. Upon his completion of the Leadership Summit, Mr Pelumi will be conferred with a prestigious Fellowship of Hesselbein Global Academy for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.”

“It is pertinent to recall here that Mr Pelumi Olugbenga was the Student Representative at the General Nigerian Studies (GNS) Review Committee last year,” the statement added.
