The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has alerted motorists to exercise extreme caution following a serious accident involving eight vehicles on Kara Bridge, inward Opic along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In an update posted on social media at around 1.20pm, LASTMA said tow trucks were already on the ground removing the disabled vehicles while officers managed traffic flow at the scene.
Kara Bridge, a key section of the major Lagos-Ibadan expressway, has been the site of multiple serious collisions in recent months and years, earning a reputation as a hazardous stretch of road for heavy and light vehicles alike.
The bridge, which spans the Ogun River on the Ogun-Lagos boundary, has previously seen multiple fatal and gridlock-inducing crashes, including a deadly collision on October 29-30 that involved several articulated trucks, some of which caught fire and plunged into the river below, causing significant disruption and casualties.
Traffic officials and emergency responders have long pointed to factors such as speeding, heavy commercial traffic, and poor night driving discipline as contributors to frequent incidents on the bridge and the wider expressway corridor.
Road safety authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and maintain careful driving practices in the area.
LASTMA’s latest advisory underscores ongoing concerns about safety on this crucial artery linking Lagos with the southwestern hinterland.
