Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed a total of eight deaths among 28 victims found in the rubble of a 3-storey building that collapsed yesterday evening in Lagos.

According to the Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, eight bodies, including six male and two females were exhumed from the rubble; 10 injured victims were treated and discharged on the spot, and 10 others with serious injuries were rushed to the hospital.

Speaking on a TVC ‘This Morning’ programme, Oke-Osanyintolu blamed the collapse of the building at 62, Odo Street, Obalende, on illegal activities by the builders who he accused of secretly rushing the building development on a Sunday after the site was sealed by government agents in September when the structure was found to be defective.

The police, NEMA, and LASEMA officials were busy with the evacuation at the site till late night yesterday.

Authorities say the building collapsed at about 5.55pm.
