Lagos State government has announced plans to divert traffic on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to create room for the Red Line project.
According to the authorities, the move is in line with the ongoing construction of the Ikeja Overpass for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line Rail Project. The Lagos State Government will divert traffic from Awolowo Way to Lagos Abeokuta Expressway. This diversion will affect the section of the Airport bus stop to the existing level crossing on Balogun street junction at Ikeja, from midnight 13th August 2021, to September 2022.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Transportation, the Commissioner, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde says the section from the Airport Bus Stop and the existing Ikeja Level Crossing will be barricaded partially to the vehicular movement for uninterrupted construction works.
Revealing the traffic diversion plan, the Transport Commissioner stated that traffic from Oshodi heading towards Iyana Ipaja, Abule Egba, and Old Abeokuta Motor road will be diverted into the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane from around the Airport Bus Stop and exit just before the level crossing around Balogun Street/Adegbola intersection to continue their journey.
Oladeinde said that the State’s Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to the area to manage traffic flow and minimize inconveniences, adding that signs and direction notifications would be placed along the axis to guide motorists on movement.
The State Government reiterated its continuous commitment towards the development of transport infrastructure within the metropolis, maintaining that it is vital for the Multi-Modal Transportation System of the State Government that would, in turn, boost the economic prowess of the citizenry.
The Ikeja Overpass, Lagos Rail Mass Transit, Red Line Project commenced in April this year.
