The Lagos State Police Command has intensified its grassroots campaign against drug abuse, cultism, election violence and other social vices, enlisting transport operators and traders as partners in crime prevention and community security.
The sensitisation programme, organised through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) in collaboration with the Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area, brought together transport operators, traders and other stakeholders at the LCDA Secretariat.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, the Area Commander, Area B Command, ACP Onyinyechi Onwuamaegbu, urged participants to reject drug abuse, cultism and other forms of criminality and embrace lawful conduct.
Onwuamaegbu said transport operators and traders occupy strategic positions within communities and could contribute significantly to maintaining peace and strengthening security.
She called on them to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities and ensuring that criminals do not find safe havens within their communities.
The campaign also focused attention on election-related violence, highlighting the need for residents and occupational groups to resist conduct capable of undermining public peace and security.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Executive Chairman of Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Divisional Police Officers and other stakeholders, who underscored the importance of collective action in tackling crime and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The initiative forms part of POCACOV’s community engagement strategy aimed at addressing social vices through sensitisation, partnership and preventive policing.
