The Lagos State Police Command has dealt another blow to cult-related criminal activities with the arrest of three suspected members of the notorious Aiye Confraternity during an intelligence-led operation in Imota, leading to the recovery of firearms, ammunition and other weapons.
The operation, which was carried out following credible intelligence supplied by members of the public, resulted in the arrest of Jelili Adeyemo, 37, believed to be the armourer of the cult group, Bisoye Adewale, 42, and John Okeafo, 60.
Police recovered a cache of weapons from the suspects, including one Beretta pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, four cutlasses and other incriminating exhibits.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity, a cult group linked to violent criminal activities in parts of Lagos State.
According to the police, the recovered Beretta pistol allegedly belongs to a notorious cultist identified simply as “Mayibone,” who is on the run.
Police authorities disclosed that the three suspects have been arraigned before a competent court and remanded in custody, while detectives intensify efforts to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons believed to be in their possession.
Reaffirming the Command’s resolve to stamp out cultism and violent crimes across the state, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, said the police would continue to sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents.
The Commissioner also commended members of the public for providing timely intelligence that led to the successful operation and urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant by reporting suspicious persons, vehicles and activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
The latest breakthrough underscores the Lagos State Police Command’s sustained offensive against cultism, armed violence and other organised crimes, as authorities intensify efforts to make communities across the state safer for residents.
