The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as “Agali”, who was shot in the Iponri area of Surulere, Lagos State, in an incident now under investigation.

According to a statement by the Command, the shooting occurred on Friday, at about 11.30pm on the National Stadium Bridge inward Iponri.

The victim was immediately rushed to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead.

“The Command is aware of the shooting incident involving Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as ‘Agali’, which occurred at about 11.30pm on National Stadium Bridge inward Iponri. The victim was rushed to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead,” the police statement said.

Police added that investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.

Agali was widely described as a prominent figure linked to a secret cult group known as the Buccaneers.

However, authorities have not confirmed any affiliation or motive connected to cult-related activities.

Social media reports also allege that the incident may be linked to rivalry between groups and local political rivalry.

Residents reported a noticeable security presence in Surulere following the incident, with patrol vehicles seen across major routes as law enforcement agencies stepped up surveillance.

The police have urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow investigations to run their course, stressing that further updates will be provided as more facts emerge.

As of press time, no arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
