Two guards supplied by a security company in Lagos have been held for the October 13 robbery attack on Prof. McCarty Mbadugha, a lawyer to the Chairman of Innoson Motors, Mr Innocent Chukwuma.

According to the police in Lagos, the security guards identified as Kingsley Okon Asuquo, 19, and Isaac Edet, 18, are being investigated.

The suspects, who allegedly complained that their salaries were not being paid, were assigned by Strongcity Security Services to guard Prof. Mbadugha, but allegedly ended up attacking and robbing the same man they were hired to protect.

The Lagos State police spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, told NewsmakersNG in a statement that the police authorities “had on October 13, 2018, at about 1730hrs, received information from a credible source that bandits held one Barrister Joseph Mbadugha aka Prof McCarty Mbadugha, hostage in his office at JohnVic Igbanogo Street, Lekki Phase One, Lagos; that the armed men were seen wearing Strongcity Security Services uniform.

“Based on the information, operatives from Maroko Police Station and FSARS, Ikeja, jointly mobilized to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums ran in different directions to avoid being arrested but one of them, who gave his name as Isaac Edet, was nabbed at the scene.

“During interrogation, he mentioned and led detectives to arrest his partner in crime, one Kingsley Asuquo. Interestingly, both suspects are the staff of Strongcity Security Services attached to the victim. They claimed the victim was not paying their salary as at when due, hence they planned with others at large to rob him.

“They succeeded in dispossessing the victim of a bag containing laptop computer, cash sum of N40, 000, three cheque booklets, one iPhone-6. All these items were recovered from the thieves in the course of the investigation.”

Oti disclosed that the Lagos State commissioner of police (CP), Mr Imohimi Edgal, has directed the head of the Command’s Intelligence Unit to fish out the suspects at large for prosecution.
