The police in Lagos have held four notorious cultists and suspected contract killers linked to a series of violent crimes and killings in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo Local Government Area, and its environs.
The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Nwokolo, popularly known as “Oblo” (35), Ayola Israel, alias “Essy Pawpaw” (39), Ebuka Nnamdi (31), and Chinedu Okafor (22), were arrested during a targeted operation at a hotel in Ajanmgbadi following credible intelligence gathered by the police.
The arrest, according to the Lagos State Police Command, is part of ongoing efforts by the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, to rid the state of cultism, violent crimes, and other criminal activities.
Police investigations reportedly uncovered disturbing evidence linking the suspects to multiple violent attacks in the area. Detectives recovered a video from one of the suspects’ mobile phones allegedly showing the killing of unidentified victims within Ajanmgbadi and neighbouring communities.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to being members of the notorious Aiye Confraternity and admitted involvement in several killings and acts of violence that had terrorised residents of the area.
Further searches conducted by police operatives led to the recovery of three firearms, comprising two locally fabricated pistols and one revolver pistol, as well as 13 live cartridges believed to have been used in carrying out their criminal activities.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in other criminal cases, identify additional members of the gang, and apprehend fleeing accomplices.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the officers for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid Lagos of criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents.
