The Lagos State Police Command has recorded a major security breakthrough with the interception of a truck conveying 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs allegedly destined for the South-East.
Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed the development on Tuesday while parading the recovered items and suspects at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
The interception followed a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Command, who acted on credible information and stopped an unmarked MAN diesel truck at the exit point of Lagos State.
Police investigations revealed that the truck was loaded with military camouflage uniforms packed in 47 sacks alongside 80 cartons containing substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
Four suspects were arrested during the operation and are currently in police custody as investigators work to unravel the network behind the shipment.
According to the Command, preliminary findings indicate that the military uniforms were being transported to the eastern part of the country, raising fresh concerns over the illegal circulation of restricted military materials and their possible use by criminal elements.
The police also recovered other exhibits believed to be connected to the operation, while detectives have commenced efforts to trace the origin of the consignment, establish ownership, and identify its intended recipients.
CP Fatai described the seizure as a significant success in the Command’s ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of prohibited items and disrupt criminal supply chains operating across state boundaries.
He assured residents that the Lagos State Police Command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and would continue to work with other security agencies to prevent the movement of illegal arms, military accoutrements, and dangerous substances capable of threatening public safety and national security.
The Commissioner further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and to apprehend other members of the syndicate linked to the illicit shipment.
