The police in Lagos have arrested two suspected members of a notorious “One Chance” robbery syndicate operating across parts of the state.

NewsmakersNG learnt that stolen mobile phones and an operational tricycle allegedly used for their criminal activities were recovered.

The suspects were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the busy Iyana Ipaja Road, in what police described as another breakthrough in the Command’s sustained crackdown on violent crimes and commuter robbery in the state.

According to the Police, operatives intercepted a tricycle carrying three occupants for a routine search when one of the passengers was found with three Android phones suspected to have been stolen from unsuspecting victims.

However, in a dramatic twist, the tricycle rider reportedly sped off during the search, abandoning the remaining occupants at the scene. One of the suspects, identified as Ademola Ibrahim, was immediately arrested.

Police said the suspect later confessed during interrogation that he belonged to a notorious “One Chance” robbery syndicate known for dispossessing unsuspecting commuters of their valuables, especially mobile phones, in Idimu, Iyana-Ipaja, Egbeda and Dopemu areas of Lagos.

Further investigation by detectives led to the arrest of the fleeing tricycle rider, identified as 26-year-old Raheem Lawal. The tricycle allegedly used for the operations, bearing registration number SMK 309 QP, was also recovered.

In a significant development, two victims who had earlier reported incidents of “One Chance” robbery along the same axis reportedly identified the suspects as members of the gang and also identified their stolen phones recovered from the suspects.

The Police said investigations were ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and ensure they are brought to justice.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eradicating robbery and other violent crimes through intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention strategies.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with lawful stop-and-search operations, and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.

Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the Command would sustain raids and targeted operations against criminal elements threatening the safety of residents across the state.
