The Lagos State Police Command has strengthened its operational capacity with the commissioning of a newly renovated operational base for its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and the deployment of additional vehicles and logistics aimed at tackling violent crime across the state.
The facility, located at Ijora Olopa Oto Road behind the LAWMA Office, was commissioned on Thursday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, as part of ongoing efforts to improve the Command’s operational readiness.
The event also witnessed the presentation of five additional operational vehicles, 1,200 raincoats and 1,000 pairs of operational boots donated by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) to enhance police mobility, officer welfare and tactical response.
Speaking at the ceremony, CP Fatai said the upgraded operational base and newly acquired logistics would significantly improve the Command’s ability to respond swiftly to security threats and violent crimes across Lagos.
He described effective policing as a collective responsibility, stressing that sustainable security can only be achieved through strong collaboration among government, security agencies, community stakeholders and residents.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led, technology-driven and proactive policing strategies designed to prevent crime, protect lives and property, and sustain law and order in the state.
Fatai expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Security Trust Fund for their continued investment in policing infrastructure and operational support.
According to him, the renovation of the VCRU operational base and the supply of additional operational assets represent another major boost to the Command’s crime-fighting capabilities.
The commissioner also thanked Lagos residents for their cooperation and confidence in the Police, assuring them that the Command would remain relentless in its efforts to make the state safer for all.
The Violent Crime Response Unit is a strategic initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, established to combat violent crime through rapid deployment, intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical interventions.
The specialised unit serves as an operational backup for high-risk incidents requiring swift response and has become a key component of proactive policing in Lagos.
Among dignitaries at the commissioning were the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan; the Ojora of Ijora Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Aromire; Aare Onikoyi of Yorubaland, Aare Tomori Williams; Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, Engr. Olalekan Adigun; President of the Social Intervention Advocacy Foundation, Dr. Segun Awosanya; Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee, Lagos State Command, Apostle Kehinde Sowemimo, alongside senior police officers, traditional rulers and other security stakeholders.
