A prominent Yoruba Nation agitator in last year’s ‘Super Mega’ rally at Ojota area of Lagos has been captured by the police.
According to the police, the arrested suspect, identified as 34-year-old Olamilekan Odofin, played a leading role in the violent rally that claimed one life and two police vehicles set ablaze.
The police had declared Odofin wanted after his recorded activities at the rally had gone viral on social media.
Lagos Police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin stated on X today: “After over a year on the run, 34-year-old Olamilekan Odofin has been arrested by officers of Ayobo Division.
“The suspect, on January 9, 2023, championed attacks on motorists and the police under the guise of Yoruba Nation agitation. Investigation is ongoing.”
The Yoruba Nation group had held the “Super Mega” rally in Ojota to continue its demand for a separate Yoruba country from south-west Nigeria.
Police authorities said that the group did not receive police permit to hold such a rally.
