A domestic violence suspect, Emeka Joseph, has been arrested, charged to court and remanded in a correctional facility by the Lagos State Police Command following allegations that he assaulted a woman identified as Ezeka Chisom.
The arrest followed a viral video and reports alleging that Joseph physically assaulted Chisom, sparking public concern and calls for action.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim sustained facial injuries during the assault.
According to the police, the suspect and the victim had been cohabiting prior to the incident.
“The victim sustained injuries to her face. The suspect has since been charged to court and remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, while the case has been adjourned till August 3, 2026,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling domestic violence and protecting vulnerable persons from abuse.
He reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of domestic violence and assured residents that reports of violence and abuse would continue to receive prompt attention and diligent investigation.
The police commissioner also urged members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence and other criminal activities to the nearest police station or formation for immediate intervention.
The Lagos State Police Command has consistently maintained that offenders involved in domestic violence and gender-based abuse will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
