Lagos NURTW Chairman, Tafa Sego

The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt last Saturday,, when six armed men stormed his Surulere residence in Lagos.

The union leader was not at home at the time of the attack.

According to sources, the assailants arrived at his Gbadamosi Close residence around 11 p.m. and met only the security guard on duty. The guard was reportedly tied up as the gunmen ransacked the premises, searching for Tafa Sego.

It was gathered that the NURTW chairman had left earlier in the evening to attend an event with a few associates who had visited him earlier in the day.

The brazen attack sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood, with residents expressing fear and concern over the violent intrusion. Many worry that the attackers may return.

Police officers from Area C Command reportedly visited the scene to assess the situation and document the damages. They also questioned the security guard, who provided useful information to aid the ongoing investigation.

A close associate of Sego disclosed that the unionist is deeply unsettled by the attempt on his life, especially as it comes during a period of reform, where he is introducing policies aimed at improving the welfare of NURTW members.

The associate added that Sego was fully cooperating with law enforcement to ensure those behind the attack were identified and brought to justice.
