The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into the death of Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police (CP) Waheed Ayilara on August 29, 2024, following a surgical procedure at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
According to reports, Ayilara died shortly after undergoing the surgery at LASUTH. The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, announced the formation of an investigative panel to examine the circumstances surrounding the sudden demise of the CP, which occurred after what was described as an “uneventful” surgery.
Prof. Abayomi expressed the state’s condolences in a statement: “The Lagos State Government extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the late CP Waheed Ayilara, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, and the people of Akwa Ibom State during this difficult period.”
He added: “CP Ayilara, who came to Lagos for a medical procedure, passed away after the surgery. His unexpected death has left us all in shock and profound sorrow.”
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on behalf of the Government and the people of Lagos State also offered his condolences, acknowledging Ayilara’s distinguished service.
He stated: “The late CP Ayilara was a dedicated officer whose leadership and commitment to maintaining law and order earned him respect and admiration across the nation. His integrity and unwavering dedication to duty have made his loss deeply felt, not only by his family and the Police but also by the entire nation.”
