The Lagos State Ministry of Housing has honoured seven members of staff for outstanding performance, professionalism and dedication to service during the first and second quarters of 2026.
The recognition, announced by the Lagos State Government, was aimed at rewarding officers whose diligence and contributions have strengthened service delivery and advanced the ministry’s mandate.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, congratulated the awardees and challenged them to sustain the standards that earned them the recognition.
Toriola also urged other employees to take inspiration from the honourees and redouble their efforts towards supporting the state government’s drive to tackle Lagos’ housing deficit.
“The reward for hard work is more work,” the Permanent Secretary said, stressing that recognition for outstanding performance should spur recipients to accept greater responsibilities and make further contributions to the ministry.
He also underscored the role of vision in effective leadership, declaring: “What separates a leader from the followers is the vision.”
Toriola urged officers to develop a strong sense of purpose, show initiative and emulate colleagues who had distinguished themselves through exemplary service.
Earlier, Chairman of the ministry’s Welfare Committee, Mrs Oluwakemi Kankafo, said the awards were instituted to recognise personnel whose professionalism, dedication and quality of service had positively impacted the ministry’s operations.
According to her, the awardees were assessed on several criteria, including diligence, professionalism, reliability, attention to detail, adherence to official procedures and effective collaboration.
Other considerations included dependability, willingness to take on additional responsibilities and maintaining a positive work ethic.
Those honoured were Mr Jamiu Abatan, Chief Administrative and Human Resource Officer, Grade Level 14; Mrs Oyetunji Opeyemi Nusirat, Principal Finance and Accounts Officer, Grade Level 12; and Mr Usman Akinpelu, Senior Lands Officer, Grade Level 10.
Others were Mr Adegite Adewunmi James, Chief Clerical Officer, Grade Level 7; Mr Adeleke Adeniyi Benjamin, Chief Driver Mechanic, Grade Level 7; Mrs Funmi Okuribido, Chief Clerical Officer, Grade Level 7; and Mrs Akinbola Iyeyemi Temidayo, Chief Clerical Officer, Grade Level 7.
The ministry said the initiative reflected its commitment to professionalism, accountability and excellence in public service, while fostering a workplace culture where exceptional performance is recognised and held up as a standard for others.
