Police authorities have announced a change of guard in Lagos.

Mr Imohimi Edgal, one of the lieutenants of the Lagos State commissioner of police (CP), Mr Fatai Owoseni, has been directed to replace him.

A signal from the Inspector-General of Police says Edgal, the former Deputy Commissioner in charge of operations in Lagos, who was last week elevated as acting Commissioner of Police will take over from Owoseni, who will report in Abuja as the Commissioner of Police in charge of administration at the Force Headquarters.

The new CP enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force, as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, on February 2, 1986. He served in various commands and formations within the country in several capacities, spending most of his days at the Lagos State Police Command.

A 1984 graduate of Art at the University of Jos, who went on to bag a masters degree in Public and International Affairs at the University of Lagos in 2004, Edgal had received training on Community and Intelligence Gathering Policing, and he is known to have organised the first Community Policing summit in Lagos.

He had served as the Divisional Police Officer of Shomolu Police Division, Seme Police Division, Ikeja and Surulere Police stations, between 2003 and 2011, as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) before he was promoted and appointed the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in-charge-of the Area ‘A’ Command, in Lagos.

He had also ‎obtained a diploma in Police Science and a certificate of National Security for Nigeria Defense Intelligence, at the Centre of Strategic Studies, Galilee International Management Institute, in Israel and the Defense Intelligence College, Abuja, in 2015.

Newsmakers learnt that Edgal had attended several courses organised by the Department For International Development (DFID), United Kingdom, in Lagos, Awka, Anambra States and Staff College, in Jos, Plateau State.
