Garuba Umar

Four days after his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP), the Officer in Charge of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) monitoring unit, Mr Garuba Umar, was posted to take charge of Lagos Command Headquarters.

The authorities, however, annulled the posting a day after.
Umar, who once served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ikoyi, in Lagos, and Mobile Police Unit 19 Commander, in Port Harcourt, was to succeed CP Fatai Owoseni whose posting to the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in Jos has also been reversed.
The IGP, Ibrahim Idris, had on Friday decorated the Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah and eight other promoted senior police officers with their next rank.
Among them were four Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) now Ag. CPs; one officer was promoted from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to DCP, three to the rank of ACP and one to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP).
They are: Ag. CP Bello Ahmed, Ag. CP Don Awunah, Ag. CP Afeez Inuwa, Ag. CP Garuba Umar, Ag. DCP Abu Sanni, ACP Ibrahim Adamu Bakore, ACP Kolo Yusuf, ACP Abba Kyari and SP Abdulkareem Abdullahi.
Idris, after the ceremony, directed Heads of Departments and Zones to reactivate the reward system for hard work within the Force.

He attributed some of the achievements recorded since he assumed office to the collective effort of the promoted officers.

  1. As long as security of Lagosians and residents as a whole is guaranteed, whoever is made the CP is irrelevant.
