Ahead of his 60th birthday, a single titled, ‘On The 6th Floor’ has been dropped in honor of Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Gbenga Omotoso.
Talking about the music, the journalist-singer, Dupe Olaoye-Osinkolu aka Mama Labour said: “Let me surprise Hon. Gbenga Omotoso on this landmark age.
“I was discussing with a former colleague at The Nation, and she said “Commissioner will be 60 in November”. “Which Commissioner?” “Hon. Gbenga Omotoso”, ” Oh, I see” was my response.
“Soon after the discussion, I thought, ‘Wow, 60! My eloquent and enthralling editor. That’s a landmark. Let me drop a surprise for him.’
“Omotoso has paid his dues over the years, in media management, mentorship of entry-level reporters including the up-and-coming writers.
“His generosity towards us in the newsroom can also not be wished away. Some of us had our ways of getting some cash off him while broke. All you need to say is, “Editor, everywhere is dry.” And he would reply, ‘Everywhere is dry or your pocket is dry?’ He would part with some cash.
“We can only wish him well in this landmark age.
“On behalf of all reporters and correspondents that had worked with him, the E-Melody Crooners wish Gbenga Omotoso a happy 60th birthday. We also pray for many joyful returns of his special day.”
