The police later brought the situation under control as they engaged the hoodlums in a shootout.

Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, who was making a speech at the time had to leave the stage abruptly. He was guarded out of the venue with his deputy, Alhaja Idiat Adebule, the APC governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other prominent members of the party.

Several people were injured in the violence that is suspected to be between the gang of MC Oluomo and that of a rival identified as Kunle Poly.

Pick-pockets also had a field day robbing people of their phones, money and other valuables.

NewsmakersNG learnt that one of the hoodlums was gunned down outside the nearby Area ‘F’ police headquarters in Ikeja.

A policeman at the rally told NewsmakersNG: “We were asked to leave the venue of the rally immediately the gun shots were flying everywhere. We had to scamper for safety so as not to be caught in the pandemonium. I removed my uniform and escaped. I learnt MC Oluomo was stabbed and he is struggling for his life in the hospital. His boys are at edge to start fighting so as I speak to you Mafoluku area where he lives is hot.”
