Strongman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo and three journalists landed in hospital today after a knife and gun attack by some gangsters at the flag-off of the party’s campaign in Ikeja, Lagos.
NewsmakersNG learnt that three journalists sustained gunshot wounds as guns, machete and other dangerous weapons were freely used when rival gangs clashed at the Skypower Ground venue of the rally in Ikeja and sent party stalwarts running for cover.
The injured journalists were identified as the Political Editor of The Nation newspaper, Dr Emmanuel Oladesu; New Telegraph’s correspondent, Temitope Ogunbanke, and

The police later brought the situation under control as they engaged the hoodlums in a shootout.
Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, who was making a speech at the time had to leave the stage abruptly. He was guarded out of the venue with his deputy, Alhaja
Several people were injured in the violence that is suspected to be between the gang of MC Oluomo and that of a rival identified as Kunle Poly.
Pick-pockets also had a field day robbing people of their phones, money and other valuables.
NewsmakersNG learnt that one of the hoodlums was gunned down outside the nearby Area ‘F’ police headquarters in Ikeja.
A policeman at the rally told NewsmakersNG: “We were asked to leave the venue of the rally immediately the gun shots were flying everywhere. We had to scamper for safety so as not to be caught in the pandemonium. I removed my uniform and escaped. I learnt MC Oluomo was stabbed and he is struggling for his life in the hospital. His boys are at edge to start fighting so as I speak to you Mafoluku area where he lives is hot.”
