Former Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr. Joe Abah, has narrated how a young lady and her friend spent four months in jail after a man who was toasting her friend stole jewelry valued at two million naira from a shop they visited with him.

Abah narrated the two ladies’ bizzare experience in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle, @DrJoeAbah.

Read the full tweet below:

“A young lady I know got a call from one of her friends, who lives in another city, that her boyfriend wanted to buy some gold and that the young lady should show them where they sell gold. She took both of them to her favourite jeweller.

“When they got there, the guy selected jewellery of N2 million. He then pretended to do a bank transfer and then grabbed the jewellery and ran off.

“The jeweller held the young lady and the ‘girlfriend’ and called the Police. It turns out that the guy was still ‘toasting’ the babe. She didn’t actually know him that well and didn’t even know where she lived.

“The two women were arrested for criminal conspiracy and theft. They were charged to court and given bail with stringent conditions. They couldn’t meet the bail and were remanded in prison for 4 months.

“Even though the ‘girlfriend’ said the young lady didn’t know anything about it, the Police didn’t believe her. They were both thrown in jail for 4 moths. They couldn’t find sureties for bail. The case was eventually dismissed as the police couldn’t prove the criminal conspiracy.

“As Fela said ‘This is what is happening to my people everyday’. We should all pray not to get into police wahala, especially when we are poor. Before you can extricate yourself, you would have suffered irreparable damage, even if you are innocent.”
