Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has ordered the immediate closure of all schools in the state, both public and private, citing ongoing security concerns.
The directive mandates a compulsory mid-term break to commence on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
The decision was communicated through an urgent notice issued by the Kogi State chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS).
In the notice, school owners were instructed to comply strictly with the order, with a warning that failure to do so could result in the withdrawal of their operating approvals.
The statement, signed by the State Chairman of NAPPS, Pastor Reuben Jimoh, described the closure as an emergency measure ordered by the governor.
It emphasised that schools must not announce any resumption date, as the security situation remains uncertain.
“This is due to security issues,” the notice stated, adding that developments before the start of the new week would determine the next course of action.
No official date has been given for the resumption of academic activities.
School administrators have been advised to await further directives from the state government.
Parents and guardians have also been urged to follow official communication channels for updates, while proprietors have been reminded that full compliance is mandatory to avoid sanctions.
