Kogi Election: Why We Visited Oyo Gov’s Hotel – Police

Police have confirmed reports that their men visited the hotel where Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, lodged in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.

Commissioner of police in the state, Hakeem Busari, told journalists at the headquarters of the command in Lokoja, that policemen went to the hotel after receiving information that some “hoodlums” were there.

He however did not give reasons why the policemen were masked.

Some of the masked policemen that invaded the hotel the governor was lodged.

He said the policemen withdrew after they discovered that the information was untrue.

“Security agencies got the information that some hoodlums were hiding in a hotel. They went there to check the information and by the time they got there, the information was not true so they had to withdraw.

“Nobody attacked anybody, nobody assaulted anybody. I’m not aware of any gunshots there. What we have discovered now is that any little thing, people will raise the alarm,” the police boss said.

Earlier reports said that that the governor and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council were attacked at Suitorial Hotel in the state capital today.

The governor’s spokesman, Taiwo Adisa, in a statement also claimed Makinde and his team were inside the hotel when masked security operatives attempted forcing their way in around 12 noon.

Makinde is the chairman of the PDP campaign council for the Kogi State governorship election.
