Kitan Murder Mystery Solved as Handwritten Note Leads to Suspects

The police in Ogun have arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of businesswoman, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following a forensic and intelligence-led investigation that led detectives to the alleged masterminds of the crime.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the breakthrough today during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Ojajuni said the suspects, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, identified as the principal suspect, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, have all been apprehended and are currently in police custody.

According to the police chief, the case came to light on June 21, 2026, when officers at Owode-Egba Police Station received a distress report concerning suspicious activities at Oyesiku’s residence.

“Preliminary information indicated that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged while the security house within the compound was found locked, prompting immediate police intervention,” he said.

Detectives who responded to the scene discovered the lifeless body of Adetayo inside the security house, while Oyesiku was found lying in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.

The Commissioner said investigators immediately processed the crime scene and discovered that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing, raising suspicions of robbery and murder.

He explained that the Command subsequently launched an intensive investigation involving intelligence gathering and technical tracking operations.

The efforts paid off on June 22 when operatives traced and recovered the missing Lexus RX 330 at Onikolobo area of Ogun State.

Although the ignition key and number plates had been removed, detectives reportedly found the vehicle’s registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, enabling them to positively identify it as belonging to the slain businesswoman.

Ojajuni revealed that a handwritten note recovered from the crime scene became a crucial breakthrough in the investigation.

According to him, forensic examination of the note generated vital leads that helped detectives identify and track the suspects.

The principal suspect, Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.

Subsequent operations led to the arrest of Ayoola, a security guard, and Obafunsho, a bricklayer, effectively bringing all identified suspects linked to the crime into custody.

During interrogation, Philip allegedly confessed to participating in the killings and admitted recruiting the two other suspects to carry out the operation.

Police said the suspect told investigators that he orchestrated the attack because of grievances he harboured against Oyesiku during the period he worked as a security guard in her employment.

According to the Commissioner, Philip confessed that the murder was intended to “teach her a lesson.”

Investigators said the suspects carried out the attack on June 20. They allegedly overpowered Adetayo, used him to gain access to the residence, attacked Oyesiku, and later killed the security guard before fleeing with the victim’s vehicle.

Further searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen, among other items believed to be connected to the crime.

While confirming that substantial evidence had been obtained, the police commissioner stressed that the suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.
He added that investigations are continuing to strengthen the case and ensure the diligent prosecution of everyone connected with the murders.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” Ojajuni said.

The arrest of the suspects marks a major breakthrough in the investigation into one of Ogun State’s most shocking double-homicide cases in recent times.
