A magistrate’s court in Lagos today denied two requests made by the Lagos lawyer who butchered her husband at Diamond Estate on May 5.
Udeme Otike-Odibi asked Chief Magistrate Kikelomo Ayeye to remand her in Ikoyi Prison, in the highbrow part of the city, instead of Kirikiri Prison where the court had ordered her to be kept.
But the request was not granted because there are no female facilities in Ikoyi Prison.
The chief magistrate also declined Udeme’s request to stop the planned burial of her murdered husband, Symphorosa Otike-Odibi, tomorrow.
The court ruled that such action would be a rude interruption of the right of the dead.
Udeme had made the request through her lawyer on the ground that the result of the autopsy carried out on the deceased was not made available to them.
Chief Magistrate Ayeye said if necessary, the body could still be exhumed for further investigation.
Her lawyer also argued that the result of psychiatric evaluation carried out on Udeme was not made available to the defence.
The court directed access to her doctor and defence counsel in private.
The defence also insisted on independent autopsy and psychiatric evaluation of the suspect.
The defence told the court that doctors had diagnosed Thyroid disease in Udeme, necessitating the urgent need for medical attention.
Udeme will remain in Kirikiri Prison pending the conclusion of investigation, Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP’s advice and formal arraignment before a High Court if need be.
Udeme ended her 3-year-old marriage gruesomely on May 5, when she allegedly used a knife she had just bought to rip her husband’s stomach open, sliced off his penis and placed it in his right hand inside their home at Diamond Estate, Ogombo, at Sango-Tedo area of Ajah, in Lagos,
