Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, with the suspects on Friday.

The police in Ogun State have smashed a gang of kidnappers who killed their victim after collecting a ransom.

The gang was smashed seven days after the abduction of one Femi Olatunji, a 43-year-old resident of OPIC Estate in Ogun State.

Six of the suspects were paraded by the Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Iliyasu, at the weekend.

According to the police, after the kidnap in Ogun State, Olatunji was tortured, killed and his body was dumped in a river in Ondo State.

The victim brought back to Ogun in a body bag.

Iliyasu said, “Today, being May 19, 2017, operatives of Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) received information about a notorious gang of kidnappers, who had earlier kidnapped one Femi Olatunji on May 12, 2017.

“Based on the information, their hideout in Igbokoda area of Ondo State was stormed by Uba Adam-led operatives of FSARS, consequent upon which the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel which lasted for about two hours.

“They later succumbed to the superior fire power of the police, and six members of the gang were arrested.

“Investigations revealed that the kidnappers collected some money from the victim’s family, but instead of releasing the victim, they killed him and dumped his corpse in a river behind Holy Trinity African Church Primary School, Igbokoda.”

The suspects were identified as: Fademi Henry, Lebile Olatunji, Ehuwa Oririe, Olotu Tosin, Oluwole Ohunayo and Peter Omagbemi Richard.

The police allegedly recovered from the suspects a Nissan Pathfinder SUV marked EPE 603 AT, belonging to the victim; one Pump Action gun; one cut-to-size locally-made double barrel pistol, seven live cartridges and one Gionee handset.

The commissioner of police warned criminals to repent or have themselves to blame.

He said, “The command will do everything possible to ensure adequate security for the residents of the state, and to make sure the state is not conducive for criminals in any form.”
