Two South African men kidnapped in Nigeria have been rescued.

Thomas Arnold Pearce and Hendrik Gideon Smith were kidnapped at a mining site in Maidaro Village, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna last Tuesday. They were taken to Birnin Gwari Forrest in Kaduna State thereafter.

The police told NewsmakersNG that Pearce and Smith were rescued at about 3am on Saturday.

A police source told NewsmakersNG: “As a result of intense pressure mounted on the kidnappers by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Police Air wing helicopter patrol and Kaduna State Police Command, victims were moved from Kaduna to Abuja this morning and after debriefing in IRT office, Abuja, they were handed over to the South African Embassy and their company representative by 7am for medicals and other immediate needs.

“Victims are in good health condition, and they have given useful information to the Police that will help in the Investigation.”

According to the police, some suspects have been arrested and efforts are on to arrest more.
