In a bold and proactive step to fortify grassroots security, the Kebbi State Government has unveiled a pioneering training initiative for Local Government Chairmen, aimed at equipping them with the tools and knowledge to combat security challenges in their respective communities.
Themed ‘Predictive and Community Policing to Increase Security in Kebbi State’, the program is spearheaded by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with Shegs Communications Limited and top-tier security consultants.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. (Alh.) Abubakar Garba Dustin Mari, emphasized the strategic role of local leaders in the state’s security architecture.
“Security challenges are most effectively tackled at the grassroots level,” he stated. “Our local government chairmen serve as crucial links between the people and state authorities, and this training will empower them to take proactive measures in maintaining peace.”
The initiative was convened by the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade (Dr.) Nasir Idris, who stressed the importance of community-led solutions to rising security concerns.
“Our strength lies in our communities,” said Governor Idris. “We’re committed to a multifaceted approach that combines the leadership of our local chairmen with strategic security partnerships.”
According to Mr. Segun Adebowale, Chief Storyteller and CEO of Shegs Communications Ltd, the training modules will cover a wide range of security-related topics including crisis management, intelligence gathering, emergency response, and collaborative policing with law enforcement and community stakeholders.
“With this training, Kebbi is not just responding to security threats — it’s taking control of its future,” Adebowale noted. “This model could serve as a blueprint for other states across Nigeria.”
Hon. Dustin Mari further explained that the ripple effects of the training will extend far beyond administrative offices, creating a culture of shared responsibility and trust between local authorities and citizens.
“When residents see their leaders taking security seriously, they are more likely to participate in safeguarding their communities,” he added.
The program underscores Kebbi State’s commitment to innovative governance, community empowerment, and sustainable peace — setting a new benchmark in sub-national security strategy.
