The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two suspected members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate accused of abducting an elderly man in Kaduna State in a shocking case of family betrayal and greed.

The suspects, Yusuf Rabo and Musa Adamu, were apprehended following investigations into the abduction of Alhaji Rabo Jelani, who police said was allegedly kidnapped with the active involvement of his own grandson, Ali Haruna, now at large.

Investigators disclosed that the suspects conspired to abduct the elderly victim after claiming he possessed substantial wealth and livestock. The gang reportedly whisked him away to forest hideouts where ransom negotiations were coordinated.

Police findings revealed that the victim was abducted twice, with the syndicate allegedly collecting ₦2 million during the first operation and another ₦4.5 million after a second kidnapping.

The Force Headquarters said the gang deployed multiple AK-47 rifles during their operations. One of the rifles was allegedly supplied by the fleeing grandson, Ali Haruna, while other weapons were sourced by members of the criminal network.

Operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine during the operation.

Further investigations linked the syndicate to other violent crimes within Kaduna and adjoining communities, including the kidnapping of a trader identified as Mr. Iyke and an armed robbery attack along the Kagoma axis where commuters were robbed of cash and valuables.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and recover additional weapons connected to the gang.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to dismantling kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates through sustained intelligence-led operations across the country.
