Malik Yahya/

Barely two hours after Hon. Aminu Shagali resigned as Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly in controversial circumstances, Hon. Ibrahim Zailani has emerged as the new Speaker.

Zailani is a former deputy speaker of the Assembly representing Igabi constituency.

Honourable Muktar Isa Hazo was elected as the Deputy Speaker.

Zailani was sworn-in this afternoon by Clerk of the House, Barrister Bello Zubairu.

In a handwritten letter addressed to the Clerk, Shagali said his resignation was based on personal grounds.

The letter dated February 25 reads, “I, Aminu Abdullahi Shagali Speaker Kaduna State House of Assembly hereby resign my appointment as the Speaker Kaduna State House of Assembly on personal grounds.”

Speaking on the development, the Clerk of the House maintained that the former Speaker duly resigned his position.

Sources however claimed that Shagali was forced to resign after 25 members of the House passed a vote of no confidence on him.
